Mestrovic’s early work was heavily influenced by his Croatian heritage and mythology. He sculpted figures of saints, heroes, and everyday people with a powerful, expressive style. His later work incorporated more modernist elements, but he always retained a unique connection to his homeland. The Mausoleum of the Racic family was the first architectural work devised by Mestrovic and was built between 1920 and 1922.
