Letters to the Founder – The Experiment in International Living: Donald Watt knew this by instinct. Decades ago, in the trough of the Great Depression, he started The Experiment in International Living so that young Americans could learn by living with foreigners to think of them not as categories but as people. In those days, learning by doing was not yet academically respectable in higher education – though everybody who wasnt in college was of course learning that way. The point is the harder multicultural lesson that all brothers are different. Learning the value of difference is the beginning of tolerance, of cooperation, of peace. The Experiment has proved a good way to begin.
