The Art of Portugal – (1500-1800) – 1968: This is the first volume written in English to be devoted entirely to the general history of Portuguese art. It is intended to serve as an introduction to the subject and makes no claim to be exhaustive, although it includes a considerable amount of new material drawn from the reserarches of the author, who has been studying various aspects of Portuguese art since 1930s. The accomplishments of the goldsmiths, ceramists, furniture makers and embroiderers, in search for the elements most characteristic of the arts of Portugal.
